Oarlock Cuff Brass

This cuff bracelet & accompanying scarf represent my first collaboration with Maine author Douglas W. Milliken. The cuff is based on the form of an oarlock, a traditional piece of marine hardware. Early in the design process I reached out to Douglas and ask if he would want to write a short story to go along with the cuff, based on a memory from my childhood. Douglas agreed, and after considering a number of options we decided to print the story on a scarf. I created the master for the cuffs using a generational casting approach; hand carving in wax, casting in pewter, and refining. Once the shape was set it was modeled to spec in CAD, by talented Nick Thompson of Berlian Arts, sized masters were 3D printed for making the sand molds. The cuffs are sand cast individually and finished in house. The scarf is printed and sewn here in Maine, and the set is packaged in a custom box, CNC cut to spec by the talented Rangeley Morton.
