This fob is my second collaboration with leatherworker Nicholas Hollows, aka. Hollows Leather. Hand fabricated master. Lost wax cast in Rhode Island. Paired with leather elements cut and finished by Hollows, and a Japanese made post stud. This kind of mechanism is also referred to as a gangent hook, kissing clip, or brummel hook. When I was a kid my father first showed me how to make them using bolt cutters and chain links. The sides pass through each other when the slots are lined up precisely perpendicular to each other. It takes a little time, but with practice the lower clip can easily be engaged or disengaged one-handed. Because there are no moving parts to wear out it is well suited for good ole’ fidgeting. Because this design incorporates leather it is not recommended for wear in the water. To learn more about Hollows Leather click here.
