Inspired by the traditional marine hardware of the same name. Hand carved master. Lost wax cast in Rhode Island and hand finished in house. To open the clasp, push the cord up over the end of the hinged arm. There is no need to push extra cord through the opening to do so. To close, simply push the cord back in place. When closed, any force that goes into the mechanism helps to close it even more securely. The cords are hand braided in house using a kumihimo loom, from 8 yarns of waxed polyester. I splice the cord ends together to create a continuous loop, using a technique I developed for the purpose. The tan cord is pigmented rather than dyed and will fade to pale white or grey (based on your lifestyle) over time. The other colors are all very stable. The base yarn from which the cords are braided is dyed, spun, and waxed here in Maine. All color options will stretch a bit over time.
