Pelican Clip, Shibuichi

Inspired by the traditional marine hardware of the same name. Hand carved master. Lost wax cast in Rhode Island and hand finished in house. To open the clasp, push the cord up over the end of the hinged arm. There is no need to push extra cord through the opening to do so. To close, simply push the cord back in place. When closed, any force that goes into the mechanism helps to close it even more securely.  The Indigo and Dusty Rose (dyed with avocado pit) options are 100% cotton, spun in Tennessee and hand dyed here in Maine by the talented Casey Ryder of Port Fiber. The waxed option is the same 100% cotton base, which I treat with bees-wax in house. These three cord options are spliced using a traditional sailors short splice, the ends of which are left long to fray.  They will fade with wear; the indigo like raw denim, the waxed and dusty rose will darken to tan or grey based on your lifestyle.  The Olive option is marine grade nylon which I dye and wax in house.  Its ends are brought together using a modified blood knot.  The olive cordage is exceptionally strong, and will last a VERY long time.  picture of indigo cord to come, dusty rose is shown with brass clip

To determine your wrist size measure at the thinnest point, snug but not tight.  Listed sizing is based on wrapping the cord as illustrated below. By experimenting with different wrapping methods the fit can be fine-tuned considerably.  For more information on sizing please visit the FAQ page under the INFO tab.
